SOUND HIRE TECHNICIAN - SEPTEMBER 2026

Full-time, fixed-term contract | October 2026 – January 2027
Salary: £26,500 – £30,000 pro rata, depending on skills and experience

We are looking for a Technician to join our busy hire department from October 2026.

ABOUT DM AUDIO

We are a sound hire company based in Musselburgh, with an extensive range of PA, wireless, backline and DJ equipment supplied to a wide variety of customers and events.

Our reputation is built on the quality, reliability and presentation of our equipment. We are therefore looking for someone who takes pride in their work, has excellent attention to detail and enjoys working in a busy, hands-on environment.
 
This is a varied role, with no two days necessarily being the same. You will be involved in preparing equipment for hire, maintaining and testing our stock, loading and unloading vehicles, delivering and collecting equipment and, when required, assisting with event setups and sound operation.
 

THE ROLE

Your responsibilities will include:
 
Hire & Warehouse
Preparing equipment for customer hires.
Cleaning, testing and correctly storing equipment.
Checking equipment against packing lists before it leaves the premises.
Ensuring any additional equipment added to a job is correctly accounted for.
Checking returned equipment against packing lists and identifying any shortages or damage.
Thoroughly checking, cleaning and testing all equipment following a hire.
Identifying equipment requiring repair or maintenance and following the appropriate procedures.
Loading and unloading vehicles.
Maintaining a clean, organised and efficient warehouse.
Following company warehouse procedures and ensuring all relevant paperwork is completed and filed correctly.
 
Equipment Maintenance
Carrying out routine equipment maintenance and basic repairs.
PAT testing equipment where required.
Cleaning and maintaining cables and other accessories.
General workshop tasks, including painting and maintaining equipment to a high standard.

Deliveries & Events
Delivering and collecting equipment from customers and event locations.
Loading and securing equipment safely in company vehicles.
Assisting with setting up and operating sound equipment when required.
Representing the company professionally when dealing with customers and working on site.
Driving company vans safely, legally and considerately.
 
General Duties
Keeping the warehouse, loading areas and vehicle parking areas clean and tidy.
Maintaining a safe working environment in accordance with Health & Safety requirements.
Providing occasional office cover, including answering telephone calls, taking messages and taking payments.
Carrying out basic vehicle maintenance, including cleaning vans inside and out.
Building and maintaining good working relationships with our customers and colleagues.
 
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
 
The successful candidate will ideally have:
 
Experience in the operation and care of professional sound, backline or DJ equipment.
An understanding of basic warehouse procedures and good working practices.
A methodical approach and the ability to follow processes and procedures accurately.
Excellent attention to detail.
The ability to work independently and use your own initiative, while also being a good team player.
A full driving licence and experience driving 3.5-tonne vans. For insurance purposes, applicants must be aged 21 or over and have held a driving licence for at least one year.
A willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when required.
A positive, enthusiastic and 'can-do' attitude.
Good communication and customer-facing skills.
A willingness to learn and develop new skills.
 
Previous experience within the professional audio or events industry would be an advantage, but training will be provided where required. We are more interested in finding someone who is reliable, practical, enthusiastic and takes pride in doing a good job.
 
WHAT WE OFFER
 
Full-time employment on a fixed-term contract from October 2026 to the end of January 2027.
Salary of £26,500 – £30,000 pro rata, depending on skills and experience.
An average 40 hour working week, including some evening and weekend work.
Training and support to develop your technical and practical skills.
The opportunity to gain experience across equipment preparation, maintenance, logistics, deliveries and live sound.
Potential opportunities to continue working with us beyond the initial fixed-term contract, subject to business requirements.
